Breakthrough in the USA after authority`s verification |
2005-04-26 |
California Air Reosurces Board, CARB, has verified a system from the filter manufacturer Johnson Matthey, called EGRT. The system is a combination between STT Emtec's emission control system, DNOx and Johnson Matthey's CRT filter. |
|
|
The DNOx system, based on the electronically controlled recirculation of exhaust gases to the engine`s combustion chamber, efficiently reduces hazardous nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 40 percent. Combined with a JM diesel particulate filter the levels of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulates are also reduced by more than 90%. This is achieved with minimal effect on engine efficiency and fuel consumption.
California imposes the world`s strictest requirements to motor vehicle exhaust emissions. Far-reaching demands are made on manufacturers, as well as equipment users. They are designed to protect environment via very low emission limits.
CARB is the regulatory body with the authority to regulate emissions, that conduct detailed evaluations and is authorized to approve equipment to improve the environment. Decisions by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US federal authority for environmental issues, apply throughout the USA. The EPA has previously announced that verification by CARB will also be regarded as approval by the EPA and the EPA is conducting a review of EGR to confirm reciprocity.
-We are proud that our EGRT system now is verified by CARB. We think this is the most competitive system on the market and we have no doubt that many customers will benefit from its many advantages. Using EGRT gives operators a front position in environmental care, says Diane McKeon-Bailey, Business Manager Diesel Emission Control Systems, Johnson Matthey.
Mr. Lennart Kallioniemi, a president of STT Emtec, comments: "We and our partner, Johnson Matthey, were confident about verification by CARB. This approval opens a significant market for emission control systems for medium- and heavyweight diesel vehicles. The EGRT system, is flexible and can be installed during production as well as a retrofit for vehicles already on the road." STT Emtec has already delivered more than 2,500 DNOx emission control units to customers in Asia, the USA and Europe. The largest volumes have been shipped to American customers, mostly to cities in the Southwest, like Dallas and Houston. The equipment has been installed in public transport buses and municipal sanitation vehicles. These deliveries have been possible since customers were granted exemptions while waiting for what has proved to be a positive response from CARB. "Many customers in the USA have chosen to wait for a formal verification by CARB, whose environmental leadership expands far beyond the American borders. We know that numerous customers are planning measures to address exhaust emissions from their vehicles," continues Lennart Kallioniemi, who is also anticipating a very intensive period for the company. For more information please contact Mr Lennart Kallioniemi, +46 60-64 10 42 or +46 70 8485 430, Business Area Manager, Emission Systems Mr Glenn Berglund, +46 60-64 10 41 or +46 70-580 68 80 or Information Manager Ms Ankie Sondell, +46 60-64 10 46 or +46 70-663 78 95 STT Emtec in brief STT Emtec is an innovative Swedish company with almost twenty-five years experience in the automotive industry. California Test Opens Gigantic Market For STT Emission Technology |
|
The technology of STT of Sundsvall to reduce nitrogen oxides in diesel exhausts, is now undergoing its first big test - in California. California is renowned for having the toughest regulations in the world today for exhaust emissions, and is preparing even more stringent legislation. In April this year, STT signed a co-operation agreement with the US-based Engelhard Corporation, which specialises in advanced filter technology. That company is one of the world`s biggest suppliers of catalysts and systems to reduce pollution from combustion engines. This co-operation opens up a huge market for STT. |
